Regatta Festival Week Kicks off in Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s
Celebration and Community Events for All!
Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s, NL – The highly anticipated Regatta Festival begins tomorrow, Saturday, June 29th and runs until Sunday, July 7th in Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s. Each year, this annual week-long festival features exciting community events for people of all ages! Events include: Community Breakfast on Saturday, June 29th; Touch a Truck on Sunday, June 30th; Canada Day Carnival on Monday, July 1st; Outdoor Movie Night on Thursday, July 4th; Dory Dash 5km Road Race on Sunday, July 7th; and much more.
The highlight of the festival is Regatta Day, which takes place on Saturday, July 6th from 12pm-5pm at the St. Philip’s Marina (weather dependent). Unlike many other regattas in this province, to row in the Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s regatta no prior experience is needed and rowers use traditional Newfoundland-style dories. Those wishing to try rowing in the regatta can simply come by the event and register for a race upon arrival. In addition to the dory races, Regatta Day will feature returning attractions such as live music on stage, food vendors, games of chance, and a new addition of a beer tent. Following the daytime regatta festivities, a newly added event, the Regatta Dance, will take place at the Town’s Recreation Centre that night beginning at 9:00pm and featuring live music by The Relics.
