PCSP’s Library Welcomes You Back

PORTUGAL COVE-ST.PHILIP’S – This year, the town’s Regatta Festival is extra special, with the grand reopening of the newly remodeled library on Tuesday, July 4th. The Town of Portugal Cove – St. Philip’s will mark the occasion with a ribbon cutting ceremony, a reading from local author Sheliah Lukins, and a barbeque among other fun events!

Along with the launch, everyone can be introduced to the Town’s new librarian, Elyse Sparkes-Coombs, who has brought her own expertise and experience in the role of librarian. Elyse has really outdone herself to make the space welcoming and inclusive, with an updated collection of books and magazines, an awesome magnet and Lego wall, and all new programming.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming the community back into their library,” said Elyse Sparkes-Coombs, Librarian. “We have programs starting July 17th for babies, toddlers, moms and a summer reading challenge for everyone. We’ve got some great upcoming events that everyone can enjoy, because it was always very important that this was a space to be enjoyed by all.”

New programming includes the St. John Ambulance Paws 4 Stories program – which will allow children to read stories to trained therapy dogs – a first in the province.

Everyone is welcome to the reopening of the library on July 4th, where there will be story time with our local Fire Department and a special reading of “Full Speed Ahead” by author Sheilah Lukins.

The newly renovated library will be opened Tuesdays to Fridays starting July 17th. For more information please visit https://pcsp.ca/library/ or contact Elyse at [email protected].
