Tolt Road Reconstruction and Water/Sewer Project

Update:

This project has now been completed. We appreciate the patience and cooperation of our residents as we work through improvements to infrastructure in our town to provide better services.

Update: April 19th, 2021

On Friday, April 23rd, 2021, work will resume on the Tolt Road project. The section of road from the intersection of Thorburn Road to 128 Tolt Road will be closed, except to local traffic, as it was in the Fall 2020.

Beginning on Friday, April 23rd and continuing into the following week, residents can expect to see heavy equipment and flag persons on site removing asphalt and excavating in this area. This work will allow for the continuation of the reconstruction project and to install water and sewer services. The project is expected to be completed by the end of the summer.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We would like to thank residents for the patience and understanding as we improve the infrastructure and services to this area. If you have any questions please contact Charlie Hamlyn, Director Public Works at 895-8000 ext 232 or [email protected]

Update: January 13th, 2021

The majority of work between Thorburn Road and civic #125 Tolt Road has now been completed. The remainder of work and the completion of Tolt Road reconstruction will be completed by September 2021. An update will be provided in Spring 2021.

Original Notice: Fall 2020

The Town Council of Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s would like to advise residents that the Tolt Road Reconstruction and Water/Sewer Project will commence on Thursday, October 1st, 2020. There are two distinct portions of work: (1) The complete reconstruction of Tolt Road and, (2) The extension of municipal services from the intersection of Thorburn road to civic number 125.

Tolt Road has been identified for some time as a high priority for reconstruction. In addition to the road work associated with the project the Town will take this opportunity to continue to extend and expand municipal services within the community, moving the services closer towards Old Broad Cove Road. In order to accommodate future expansion of water and sewer services the section of Tolt Road that is not being serviced at this time will only have a levelling layer of asphalt laid. This will allow further expansion in the near future.

The first phase of the project is expected to be completed by December 11th, 2020. This would include all municipal infrastructure installed, a kilometer of sidewalk, and the first layer of asphalt laid. Completion of this work is dependent on weather conditions.

The section of Tolt Road from Thorburn Road to Skinners Road will be closed during this time, except to local traffic. This means that you will still be able to use this section of road as necessary. This partial closure will accommodate the installation of municipal infrastructure.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We would like to thank residents for the patience and understanding as we improve the infrastructure and services to this area. If you have any questions please contact Charlie Hamlyn, Director Public Works at 895-8000 ext 232 or [email protected]
