Reminder: Fire Ban Issued for the Town of Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s
The Portugal Cove – St. Philip’s Volunteer Fire Department wishes to remind all residents that a fire ban is in effect within the municipality. The fire ban is in place for the next 7 days until July 31st, where it will be re-assessed. This includes backyard firepits, chimineas, charcoal BBQs and open fires. Propane firepits and BBQs are permitted. All burn permits that have been issued are currently suspended.
The PCSPVFD understand that with beautiful summer weather, residents wish to make the best of the season. As our community is a forest-dense area, our priority is to protect the residents and community.
In the meantime, PCSPVFD are asking people to be fire safe when using propane firepits and barbecues, to keep a hose or fire extinguisher handy and follow manufacturer’s requirements regarding clearances from combustible materials. In the event of an emergency or fire, please call 911 or the PCSP Fire Chief 709-895-1230
The PCSPVFD will monitor this situation closely and will update residents of any changes to the ban.
