Fire Ban Extended for Jurisdiction of PCSP

The Portugal Cove – St. Philip’s Volunteer Fire Department (PCSPVFD) wishes to advise all citizens that due to the high fire hazard rating for our region, as identified by the Province, a fire ban remains in effect for Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s and the greater Northeast Avalon region.
The NE Avalon Fire Chiefs have assessed current conditions locally and the weather expected over the next few days. In view of the evolving forest fire hazard rating in central and eastern Newfoundland, there is concern the NE Avalon hazard rating may rise further. As a result, the current fire ban is extended until Thursday, when conditions will be re-evaluated with another update expected later this week.
This ban includes outdoor wood-burning appliances, charcoal BBQs, and open fires. Propane firepits and propane BBQs are permitted. All permits have been suspended.
In the meantime, PCSPVFD urges residents to practice fire safety when using propane devices. Always keep a hose or fire extinguisher nearby and follow the manufacturer’s instructions, especially regarding safe clearances from combustible materials.
PCSPVFD continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as conditions change.
