Updated Town Facilities Closure: Thursday, February 15th, 2024

Residents are advised that all Town facilities will remain closed for Thursday, February 15th, 2024. At this time, waste collection has been rescheduled for Monday, February 19th, 2024 and all PCSP Winter Carnival, and PCSP programming will be rescheduled.

Recreation Coordinators will be in touch with participants for a new date and time, and we will announce on our social media, and website a new date for PCSP Winter Carnival events.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and thank all for their patience as our crews work with winter weather. We have crews scheduled to respond to winter weather, and town staff is actively monitoring the weather.

Residents are advised that due to the inclement weather, all town facilities and programming are closed for Wednesday, February 14th, 2024. All programming will be rescheduled, and participants will be contacted with the new date and time. In addition to this, all waste collection scheduled for today has been postponed, with a tentative rescheduled date of Saturday, February 17th. The following programming has been rescheduled:
 
❄️Outdoor Playgroup – rescheduled to Monday February 19th, Rainbow Gully Park, 10:00am.
❄️Seniors Pickle Ball – Staff will reach out to participants with new programming date.
❄️Family Goods Bingo – moved to Wednesday Feb. 28th, all tickets purchased will be honored for new date, space is still available for anyone looking to attend – register on eServices!
❄️Zumba – postponed evening class, with a new date of Wednesday, April 3rd from 6:30-7:30 pm in the PCSP Recreation Centre.
In the event of deteriorating conditions, we would like to remind residents of the following:
 
❄️ When you see snow clearing crews on the streets, please keep a safe distance.
❄️ When snow clearing, wear warm reflective clothing so snow clearing crews and residents can see you.
❄️ Don’t play in snow banks near roadways and driveways.
❄️ Please be patient and courteous with our snow clearing crews as they work to keep roads open; an initial clearing is conducted to open roads to keep roads accessible for emergency crews.
❄️ We recommend to have a home emergency kit and supplies, including food, water, pet food, prescriptions, flashlights, portable radio, and extra batteries. Supplies should be prepared to last at least 72 hours.
 
Town staff are actively monitoring the forecast and weather conditions, with crews scheduled to respond. Further information and updates will be provided on our website and social media.

The Town of Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s offers the following emergency preparedness recommendations for residents:

  • Have a basic home emergency kit and supplies, including food (and pet food), drinking water, prescriptions, first aid kit, battery-powered flashlights, and portable radio.
  • Use flashlights, rather than candles and have a good supply of batteries; if you use candles, don’t leave them unattended.
  • For those who are on well water, please prepare by filling your bathtubs with water for household use, such as flushing toilets, in case of power outage. Please ensure you have extra drinking water on hand as well.
  • Secure any outside items that are a potential hazard in high wind such as patio furniture, BBQs, children’s play structures, garbage bins, etc.
  • Charge mobile devices in case of extended power outage.
  • Know where your household fire extinguisher, water shut off valve, and electrical panel box are all located.
  • Test your smoke alarms to ensure they are working properly.
  • Stay up-to-date by monitoring forecast information and local news.
