Town Hall and Facilities Closed due to Inclement Weather

Residents are advised that due to inclement weather, Town Hall and all Town facilities will close at 12:30 pm for the remainder of Tuesday, January 27, 2026.

Town staff are actively monitoring the forecast and current weather conditions, with public works crews scheduled and prepared to respond.

Residents are encouraged to monitor the Community News section on the homepage of pcsp.ca, as well as the Town’s social media channels for the latest updates.

Important Winter Safety Reminders

In the event of deteriorating conditions, residents are reminded of the following:

When snow clearing crews are operating, please keep a safe distance.
Wear warm, reflective clothing when outdoors so crews and other residents can see you.
Do not play in snowbanks near roadways or driveways.
Please be patient and courteous with snow clearing crews as they work to keep roads accessible. Initial clearing focuses on opening routes for emergency vehicles.
Ensure your household has an emergency kit with enough supplies to last at least 72 hours, including food, water, pet food, prescriptions, flashlights, a portable radio, and extra batteries.

Emergency Preparedness Recommendations

The Town of Portugal Cove–St. Philip’s Volunteer Fire Department encourages residents to take the following preparedness steps:

Maintain a basic home emergency kit, including food and pet food, drinking water, prescriptions, a first aid kit, battery-powered flashlights, and a portable radio.
Use flashlights instead of candles whenever possible. If candles are used, never leave them unattended.
Residents on well water are advised to fill bathtubs with water for household use, such as flushing toilets, and to ensure extra drinking water is available in the event of a power outage.
Secure outdoor items that may become hazards in high winds, including patio furniture, BBQs, play structures, and garbage bins.
Charge mobile devices in advance of potential power outages.
Know the location of your household fire extinguisher, water shut-off valve, and electrical panel.
Test smoke alarms regularly to ensure they are functioning properly.
Stay informed by monitoring weather forecasts and local news updates.
