Family Literacy Day is a national celebration that highlights the importance of reading and learning together as a family. Taking place every year on January 27, this day encourages families to spend time sharing stories, exploring activities, and building strong literacy habits at home.
The 2026 Family Literacy Day theme, Make Mealtime Family Learning Time, celebrates the many ways learning naturally happens around the table. Preparing and sharing meals together creates meaningful opportunities for families to read, talk, listen, and learn side by side. Conversations at the dinner table encourage storytelling, expand vocabulary, and strengthen communication, while shared routines create a sense of connection and belonging.
