Public Council Meeting Highlights from Thursday, February 19th, 2026:

 
CAO Report
  • The CAO provided dates for upcoming events being held in the Town: Golden Olympics, St. Patrick’s Day, Best of PCSP, Easte Events.
  • The Town is in the process of getting a new website, we expect this to be ready by the end of April.
  • Management meet at the end of January to go over operational plans, capital projects, succession plans, and efficiencies for the 2026 year.
 
Community Services
  • Council approved a donation of $1000.00 to help with the Prince of Wales Collegiate 2026 Leadership Conference to be held in October.
 
Admin and Governance
  • Charlie Hamlyn has been appointed to the role of Chief Administrative Officer for the Town.
  • Two committees were approved by council:
1. Water Body Buffers, Council Liaison Robert Stapleton and Ashley Linehan, Director of Planning and Development. A call for members will occur soon.
2. Special Committee – Trails, Councillor Gavin will, other members to be appointed.
 
Corporate Services
  • Council adopted a Water and Sewer Fee for Service By. This By-Law will provide clear criteria for water and sewer fee exemptions.
 
Public Works and Safety
  • The Town has submitted an application in the amount of $485.691.20 plus HST to the Canada Community Building Fund (formerly Gas tax), for the project Dogberry Hill Road upgrades.
  • Sludge Removal was awarded to Pardy’s Waste Management Ltd, for the Lamswood Lane plant, in the amount of $38,180.78 plus applicable taxes.
  • Council adopted a Residential Water Service Connection Policy.
  • Asset management – fleet replacements were approved for two pickup trucks to be purchased and put into service.
 
Planning and Development
  • Council are proceeding with Municipal Plan Amendment No. 25, 2026 and Development Regulations Amendment No. 42, 2026 which proposes to establish accessory detached dwelling units as an accessory use to single dwellings.
 
  • The amendment documents and submissions received during the public consultation will be forwarded to the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA) for review in accordance with the Urban and Rural Planning Act, 2000. Upon completion of the review by MACA, the amendments are released for scheduling of a public hearing. Amendments to the Town’s Municipal Plan and Development Regulations do not come into legal effect until such time that the amendment process outlined in the Urban and Rural Planning Act, 2000 is completed and the documents have been registered by MACA.
 
Proclamations
  • Wear Red Canada Day, February 13th, raise awareness for all Canadians, especially women, to be mindful, curious, and proactive in the management of their heart health.
  • Heritage Day, February 16th, and Heritage Week, February 16th to 22nd, a time to reflect on the achievements of past generations and to accept responsibility for protecting our heritage.
  • Easter Seals Month, March 2026, to show support to Easter Seals a charitable organization in our province with a vision for a community where all people with disabilities live full, healthy and active lives, and a mission to engage, inspire and maximize opportunities for people with disabilities of all ages by providing meaningful programs and services.
 
Next Meeting
  • The next regular public council meeting will take place on Wednesday, March 11th, 2026 at 7:00 pm. Zoom is available for those who wish to attend virtually.
  • Committee of the Whole meetings will take place on March 18th, and 19th (if required) beginning 5:30 pm. Zoom is available for those who wish to attend virtually.
