Provincial Fire Ban Lifted
Residents are advised that, as of Friday, September 12th, 2025, the provincial fire ban has officially been lifted.
The ban, which was first announced on August 5th, was put in place due to a prolonged period of high temperatures and extremely dry conditions across the province. These weather conditions contributed to an increased risk of wildfires, and the restriction was an important step in supporting ongoing wildfire suppression efforts and protecting communities and natural landscapes.
Thanks to recent changes in weather and the dedicated work of wildfire response teams, conditions have now improved to the point where the ban can be safely lifted. All previously issued permits are now reinstated.
That said, while the ban is no longer in effect, residents are strongly reminded to remain vigilant and fire safe. Please continue to:
-
Follow all municipal and provincial fire regulations.
-
Never leave a fire unattended and ensure it is fully extinguished before leaving.
-
Keep water or other means of suppression nearby when burning outdoors.
-
Be mindful of wind conditions and surrounding vegetation.
Thank you to the Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s Volunteer Fire Department for supporting many communities in their wildfire suppression efforts, and for keeping our community safe. Our volunteers responded at a moments notice for any call that came in, and were able to provide protective measures thanks to their dedication to their community and extensive training.
Practicing fire safety helps protect your family, your property, and the community at large. Thank you to all residents for your cooperation during the fire ban and for continuing to prioritize safety in the weeks ahead.
