Open Air Burning Suspended

Due to dry weather conditions, the Forestry Division of the Department of Fisheries and Land Resources has assessed the risk of wildfires as “high” at this time. There will be no permits issued by the Town of Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s for open air burning until conditions improve. We will be closely monitoring the conditions by following the Forestry Division’s updates here on the online Fire Hazard Map:

http://www.faa.gov.nl.ca/forestry/forest_fires/fire_hazard_map.html

At this time, we would like to remind residents that backyard burning is also restricted. Please do not use any back yard fire pits while the Fire Hazard Index is listed as “high.” This restriction includes burning barrels, fire pits, chimineas, etc.

Any time you are planning to do any open air burning and are unsure of conditions or required permits, please contact the Town Hall at 895-8000 or the Fire Department at 895-8000, ext. 257 or 267.
