Fire Ban in Immediate Effect for Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s

The Portugal Cove – St. Philip’s Volunteer Fire Department(PCSPVFD) wishes to advise all citizens that due to the high fire hazard rating for our region and wildfires currently ongoing in the Holyrood area, a fire ban is currently in effect within Portugal Cove -St. Philip’s. This includes outdoor wood-burning appliances, charcoal BBQs and open fires. Propane firepits and BBQs are permitted, all permits are now suspended. This mean absolutely no open fires, and do not throw cigarette butts on the ground.
Due to reported smoke in our community from the wildfires in Holyrood, residents are strongly advised to keep all windows closed and turn off air exchanger systems to prevent smoke from entering homes.
In the meantime, PCSPVFD are asking people to be fire safe when using propane firepits and barbeques, to keep a hose or fire extinguisher handy and follow manufacturer’s requirements regarding clearances from combustible materials. The PCSPVFD will monitor this situation closely and will update residents of any changes to the ban.
