Fire Ban in Effect for Jurisdiction of Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s
The Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s Volunteer Fire Department (PCSPVFD) wishes to advise all citizens that due to the high fire hazard rating for our Region, as identified by the Province, a fire ban is currently in effect within the Region which includes Portugal Cove and St. Philip’s.
The fire ban will remain in effect for a minimum of 5 days, with an update to be provided in the afternoon of Tuesday, June 3rd. This includes outdoor wood-burning appliances, charcoal BBQs and open fires. Propane firepits and BBQs are permitted.
In the meantime, PCSPVFD are asking people to be fire safe when using propane firepits and barbeques, to keep a hose or fire extinguisher handy and follow manufacturer’s requirements regarding clearances from combustible materials. The PCSPVFD will monitor this situation closely over the next week and will update residents of any changes to the ban.
