Every Child Matters

To show our respect and honour the 215 children whose remains were discovered at the site of a former residential school for Indigenous children in Kamloops, BC, tonight at our Council meeting we will have 2 minutes and 15 seconds of silence. We mourn the discovery of these children and keep the survivors and their families in our thoughts and prayers.

Typically Orange Shirt Day (orangeshirtday.org) falls on September 30th. However, considering the tragic discovery last week, we are joining the many organizations, schools and businesses who have chosen to do it now as well.

A National Indian Residential School Crisis Line has been set up to provide support for former students and those affected. Emotional and crisis referral services can be accessed by calling the 24-hour national crisis line: 1-866 925-4419.

If you are struggling, the Newfoundland and Labrador Mental Health Crisis Line can be called 24 hours at 1-888-737-4668. All provincial health help lines can be found here:
