Dog Control Regulation Policy Update

We understand there is concern regarding our Dog Control Regulations Policy, 2000. Please be assured, this is an outdated policy, and we are actively working to update it to better reflect the values of our Council and community.
At the June 27th Public Works and Safety Committee meeting, we decided to bring forward a Notice of Motion to update this policy at the upcoming public meeting on July 9th. Our Council and staff deeply respect the care and well-being of dogs, recognizing them as beloved family members.
In 2022, we partnered with Beachy Cove Animal Hospital to enhance our services. This partnership allows our staff to deliver lost dogs to the hospital, where they receive a health assessment, have their microchips scanned, and check our shared database of dog tags. This has significantly improved our ability to reunite lost dogs with their owners.
This outdated policy does not reflect our current procedures and practices. We are committed to updating it to align with our community’s values.
We appreciate the hard work of our Council and staff since 2000 to update our policies to meet the evolving needs and values of our residents. We appreciate your dedication to staying informed and engaged, and we thank you for your active participation in local matters.
