COVID-19 Alert Level 2 Changes in Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s 
Parks and Sports Facilities to Reopen, Bulk Garbage Collection to Resume

Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s, NL – As the province transitions to Alert Level Two of the “NL Life with COVID-19” plan, we are pleased to announce several positive updates pertaining to our parks, sports facilities, and bulk garbage collection.

Parks and Sports Facilities Opening:

Parks and facilities will be open from the hours of 10:00 am – 10:00 pm daily.

As of Friday, June 26th, the following park facilities will be open:

  • Soccer Fields
  • Softball Fields
  • Basketball Courts
  • Skateboard Parks
  • Community Playgrounds (Rainbow Gully and Voisey’s Brook)
  • Washroom facilities at the park huts

All users will be required to follow posted signage for entrance and exits, as well as keep to the right while walking in and out of facilities. If all posted protocols and signage are not strictly followed, the park and/or sports facilities may be forced to close. Users must ensure proper physical distancing at all times. In addition, users are expected to practice safe hand hygiene and sneeze/cough etiquette.

Facilities to remain closed:

  • Summerwood Playground
  • Recreation Centre
  • Library
  • Park hut buildings and canteens (except washrooms)

We continue to work towards opening facilities in a safe manner with respect to provincial Alert Level Two guidelines. We will provide an update on Tuesday, June 30th regarding Summerwood Playground.

Bulk Garbage Collection:

Bulk Garbage Collection will begin on Monday, July 6th, 2020 by appointment only. As of Monday, June 29th, 2020 bookings for Bulk Garbage Collection will resume. All those wishing to make an appointment may contact [email protected] or call the Town’s Public Works Department at 895-8000 ext. 228 beginning on June 29th. Public Access to Town Hall:

At this time the Town Hall will remain closed to the public. We are working towards opening the Town Hall to the public during Alert Level Two.
