Community Tree Lighting Ceremony Going Ahead!

The Town of Portugal Cove–St. Philip’s is excited to announce that the annual Community Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place this evening at 6:00 p.m. Residents are invited to gather in front of the PCSP Fire Hall, located at 1119 Thorburn Road, for a festive night filled with music, community spirit, and seasonal celebrations.

For those who cannot attend in person, our musical Christmas tree will be on display throughout the holiday season. Simply tune in to 89.1 FM to enjoy the synchronized light and sound show anytime!

To open the celebration, the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps will perform live instrumental Christmas music as guests arrive. We encourage everyone to come a few minutes early to enjoy their performance and start the evening on a warm, festive note.

A fireworks display is scheduled to take place for approximately 15 minutes between 6:20 p.m. and 6:45 p.m., though timing may shift slightly depending on how quickly the program proceeds.

Residents with pets or those sensitive to loud noises are encouraged to take precautions. Pets should be kept on a leash and away from windows during the fireworks portion of the event.

Following the fireworks, attendees are invited into the PCSP Fire Hall Bay to enjoy a free hot chocolate. There will be plenty for everyone; however, we kindly ask for patience while lining up as staff work to serve all guests.

In the spirit of the season, residents are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to help support local food banks. Your contributions make a meaningful difference for families in our community.

Please refer to the event parking map for information on approved parking locations and areas where parking is restricted.
Accessible parking will be available in front of Town Hall on Rainbow Gully Road for those who require it.

The event will be livestreamed on the Town’s Facebook page for those unable to attend in person. An ASL interpreter will be present on-site throughout the ceremony. While we will make every effort to include the interpreter in the livestream, full visibility cannot be guaranteed due to the nature of broadcasting a live outdoor event.

As this is a live outdoor event, timing, visuals, and audio may shift, and unexpected changes may occur. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to deliver a safe and enjoyable celebration for all.

We look forward to celebrating the start of the Christmas season with you tonight. See you at 6:00 p.m.! 🎄✨
