ACOA Announces Funding to Support New Splash Pad in Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s
Today, Friday, April 22nd, 2022 the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for ACOA, along with Joanne Thompson, Member of Parliament for St. John’s East, announced investments through the Canada Community Revitalization Fund (CCRF) for five projects in the towns of Logy Bay – Middle Cove – Outer Cove, Portugal Cove – St. Philip’s, Pouch Cove, Torbay and Flatrock.
Here in Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s, a $100,000 grant was provided for the install of an accessible community splash pad at Rainbow Gully Park and several water toys on the park grounds. This project will provide a new outdoor activity in a popular gathering space for people of all ages to enjoy.
Interactive splash pads help to build capacity in children. These spaces offer opportunities for kids to learn how to be creative through play, how to be leaders, and how to meet and foster healthy relationships with friends. This modern addition to our community infrastructure will be a completely accessible, inclusive place for families to get active and socialize right here in our town.
