Youth Employment – Summer and Easter Camp
Applications are now open for 2026 Easter Camp and Summer Day Camp positions with the Town of Portugal Cove–St. Philip’s.
These youth employment opportunities offer hands-on experience working with children in a fun, active, and community-focused environment. Staff play a key role in delivering engaging physical, educational, and creative programming throughout the camp season.

We’re Hiring ? Director of Public Works – Town of Portugal Cove – St. Philip’s
Portugal Cove–St. Philip’s (PCSP) is a growing coastal community built on pride, resilience and a strong sense of place. As our Town evolves, so does the responsibility to protect and strengthen the infrastructure that supports it.
We are seeking a strategic and experienced Director of Public Works. A senior leader who knows that great infrastructure is about smart systems, strong teams, and responsible stewardship.
The Role
Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director provides executive-level leadership and operational oversight for the Town’s Public Works and infrastructure services. This position ensures essential municipal services are delivered safely, efficiently, and in alignment with regulatory standards and long-term asset management priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of Public Works and municipal infrastructure services
- Oversee roads and streets, water and wastewater systems, stormwater infrastructure, solid waste services, fleet and municipal facilities
- Ensure delivery of services in compliance with provincial and federal legislation, environmental regulations, and municipal policies
- Maintain accountability for wastewater facility operations, regulatory reporting, and federal compliance standards
- Lead and enforce operational safety programs, risk management practices, and a strong culture of workplace safety across all divisions
- Plan, lead, and deliver capital and cost-shared infrastructure projects from concept through completion
- Work collaboratively with the Planning Department on subdivision reviews, land development applications, and infrastructure readiness assessments
- Engage and manage Prime consultants, engineering firms, contractors, funding partners, and regulatory authorities
- Oversee infrastructure budgeting, funding applications, cost controls, and financial stewardship of projects and operations
- Advise the CAO and Council on infrastructure planning, asset management strategies, operational performance, and long-term sustainability initiatives
- Build trust and alignment across crews, departments, contractors, and the broader community
You Bring:
- A degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Business, Project Management, or a related discipline is preferred.
- 5–10 years of progressive leadership experience in public works, infrastructure, engineering, project management, or a related field. Equivalent experiences will be considered.
- Demonstrated experience overseeing capital projects, regulatory compliance, and operational teams
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to foster accountability, professionalism, and performance
- Sound judgment and the ability to navigate complex municipal and stakeholder environments
- Municipal experience is an asset.
