Robert Stapleton

I am a dedicated family man, married to my wonderful wife, Karen. We are the proud parents of three children and four grandchildren who bring us immense joy. My roots in Portugal Cove–St. Philip’s run deep, reaching back generations to the founding families of our community. This heritage, combined with my commitment to both current and future residents, has given me a strong appreciation for our shared history and a deep dedication to improving our town.

Portugal Cove–St. Philip’s is not just where I live; it’s part of who I am. My wife and I have chosen this community to live, work, volunteer, and raise our family. It’s more than just a place on the map; it’s where we belong.

Over the years, I have had the privilege of working alongside many residents who, while not sharing my long family history here, have chosen Portugal Cove–St. Philip’s as their home. Their passion and love for this community have inspired me and deepened my appreciation for the diverse voices that shape our town. Together, we can create a thriving, sustainable, and inclusive community for future generations.

Professionally, I began my career in our family business before moving into management and eventually ownership. I am now the semi-retired owner of Rock Construction Co. Ltd., a family-owned heavy civil construction company that has served Newfoundland and Labrador for over 50 years. Our company has successfully completed many complex projects across the province, including municipal infrastructure like water and sewer systems, roads, sidewalks, trail building, and bridge replacements. We have also handled large-scale brownfield site environmental cleanups and redevelopment projects.

This work has given me valuable experience in leadership, accountability, and the importance of collaboration, team building, and delivering results on time and within budget. I firmly believe that leadership carries an obligation for accountability.

Beyond my business career, I have remained committed to both community and industry. I served on the board of the Heavy Civil Association for 15 years, including two terms as President. I also served for four years on the board of the Newfoundland and Labrador Construction Association.

Locally, I was one of the founding members of the PCSP Chamber of Commerce (now Killick Coast Chamber of Commerce) and served as Vice President and board member for eight years. I also helped start the Citizens for Fairness Group (CFFG) and I am one of the founding members of the Arts, Wellness, and Heritage Group (AWH Group), continuing to serve as a volunteer board member. Additionally, I have contributed to various municipal committees, including the Heritage Committee, Beach Restoration Committee, and Tourism Working Group.

If elected Councillor, I will draw on this experience to foster teamwork and consensus-building, address community concerns, and move positive initiatives forward. I will serve with integrity, transparency, and dedication to ensure Portugal Cove–St. Philip’s remains a strong, sustainable, and inclusive community where current and future generations are proud to call home.
