Jenine Tucker
My name is Jenine Tucker and I am humbly seeking your support in the upcoming Municipal Election. I was born and raised in PCSP. My mother was a Gladney from Portugal Cove; my father, St. Philip’s. My roots are firmly planted. Growing up in PCSP I experienced a strong sense of community, with strong moral and values. We knew our neighbours, made lifelong friends, supported local business and organizations, and we raised our families. I wanted to instill the same values and share the same experiences with my children, so I raised my family here.
As a single mother of three beautiful children, I worked full time for the Town and often carried a part time job at one of our local establishments. During my free time, for many years, I would be found in a school gym, on one of our soccer fields, or at a dance competition. In most recent years you will find me on one of our beautiful beaches or many trails.
I spent seven years as an Administrative Support Clerk for the town of Portugal Cove-St. Philips, before moving into the role of Planning Clerk with the Planning and Development Department. During these 13 years, I had the opportunity and privilege of getting to know the members of our community. I understand the needs, concerns and visions you have for our growing town; the things our community holds dear. As a town servant, I always strived to provide exceptional service. I offered support and guidance to staff and residents. I took pride in going above and beyond, always going the extra mile, to ensure a favourable outcome. I have a good understanding of the regulations, procedures/processes, and policies in place. I understand the needs of the residents/property owners, the developers, and the business owners. I understand the needs of the town staff. I understand the needs of our town as a whole. I understand what it takes to get the job done.
While employed by the Town I was also elected President of our local chapter of the Union; a position I held for eight years. I am proud to say that I helped to negotiate two fair and satisfactory Collective Agreements between the employer the employees. I stood up for the rights of my fellow workers and was a strong voice for our membership using empathy, respect, integrity and discretion in every endeavour.
With the election weeks away, I hope to connect with the members of our beautiful town. My experience has given me the right skillsets to work for the people of our town. I will ask the right questions, provide accurate information, and speak up and against what is not right. I will be honest and fair. I will encourage and foster growth and balance within our town.
For 43 years, I have had faith in our town.
On October 2nd, I hope you have faith in me.
