Erin Gallant

My name is Erin Gallant, and I am honoured to put my name forward as a candidate for Town Council in Portugal Cove–St. Philip’s. For over a decade, I have proudly called this town my home, where I live with my husband, my mother, and our four children. As a mother and an Indigenous woman, I bring both lived experience and a deep commitment to building a strong, supportive, and inclusive community.

I have dedicated my career to serving others, spending most of my professional life in the non-profit sector delivering front line services. In 2013, I founded Stable Life Inc., a non-profit organization facilitating equine-assisted mental health and wellness programs right here in Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s. I am also an Equestrian Coach and proudly serve as a Board Member with the Newfoundland and Labrador Equestrian Association, helping to promote equestrian sport and recreation across the province.

Beyond my professional work, I believe strongly in volunteerism and the power of community. I am a Board Member with the Killick Coast Chamber of Commerce, where I advocate for local businesses and economic growth in our region. I also serve as a Board Member with the Arts, Wellness and Heritage (AWH) Group, supporting initiatives that celebrate creativity, culture, and wellbeing. These roles have deepened my understanding of how important it is to balance development with equity, sustainability, and community connection.

My passions include mental health and wellness, equity, and supporting the vibrant small business ecosystem that make Portugal Cove–St. Philip’s unique. Growth is necessary, but it must be done thoughtfully and intentionally. My ideal approach protects farmland, green spaces, and the traditions that define our community while also creating opportunities for families, seniors, and youth to thrive.

If elected to Town Council, my priorities will be:

  • Affordability: advocating for fair taxes and policies that ease the financial pressures on residents.
  • Housing and Services: supporting safe housing and accessible resources for families, seniors, and vulnerable residents.
  • Community Connection: deepening our sense of community and amplifying the concerns of residents
  • Rural Character and Environment: protecting natural spaces, supporting farmers, and ensuring balanced development.
  • Equity and Inclusion: uplifting the voices of all residents, ensuring perspectives are considered from all who live here.

I am running for Town Council because I care deeply about this community and its future. I have the experience, passion, and determination to represent the people of Portugal Cove–St. Philip’s with honesty, integrity, and respect.

I would be honoured to earn your support and your vote in this election.
