Update: Fire Ban Lifted for Portugal Cove – St. Philip’s

Fire Ban Lifted for Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s

The Portugal Cove – St. Philip’s Volunteer Fire Department wishes to advise all residents that the fire ban within the municipality, has now been lifted. Residents are now permitted to use backyard firepits, chimineas, charcoal BBQs and open fires, propane firepits and BBQs. We wish to remind citizens that both provincial and municipal permits are required for any open air burning, but the use of a backyard enclosed and screened fire pit’s or manufactured chiminea’s does not require a permit. In the meantime, PCSPVFD are asking residents to continue to be fire safe when using fire sources – keep a hose or fire extinguisher handy and follow manufacturer’s requirements regarding clearances from combustible materials. Only burn clean wood. DO NOT burn rubber, plastic products, waste materials, flammable liquids or other hazardous materials.  Keep the area of the fire small and under control.

The PCSPVFD will continue to monitor the forestry fire hazard rating daily, and will update residents of any changes. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
